My name is Nick Yates and I’m an email marketer for 8 and 9-figure DTC brands, mostly in the health space.

My life has been great… literally, all of it.
I have a great family and I’ve had great 9-5 jobs.

Life was perfect.

My grandfather was an entrepreneur through and through. He came from (literal) dirt floors in the hills of Tennessee and grew his construction business into a multi-million dollar operation that provided generational wealth for all of his children.
And he always told me the same thing, “Build something for yourself, something that YOU own.”
I never forgot that.
This seed was always growing in the back of my mind as I drove my car to work when I was told to, worked when I was told to, and took time off when I was told to…
Just like a good little worker ant should.
But in the back of my mind, I always had thoughts in my mind like…
“What if my parents get sick and they need me? I don’t have that much PTO…”
“Will I ever get to spend the amount of time I truly want to with my daughter? And my wife?”
“When will I have time to work on my health and fitness-related goals?”
“Is it possible for me to take time off and not have to worry about the mess I’ll return to?”
“Is this what I’m going to do for the next 35+ years until I retire? And then die 10 years later?”
These kinds of thoughts consumed my thinking on a daily basis.
Maybe you’ve had similar thoughts?
The good news is, these thoughts pushed me to focus more on my “side hustle” and grow my copywriting business while I continued to slog through days at my 9-5.
I worked before and after work, on weekends, and took calls on my lunch breaks.
It was a second full-time job and it required a lot of my energy. But, I was passionate about it so it felt nothing like a J-O-B to me. I couldn’t wait to work on it…
Then I made my big escape.
I reached a point where I had saved up two years' worth of my 9-5 salary and I had matched my full-time salary in monthly recurring revenue.
So, I quit. It was one of the most memorable days of my life.
But it wasn’t all sunshine and lambos…
I continued adding more clients to my roster, making more and more money and loving every second of growing my business…
… until I didn’t.
Eventually, everything came tumbling down on me.
Once I reached my fourth flat fee retainer client, I realized something that shook me to my core.
I had made a HUGE mistake.
This was no different than my 9-5. In fact, it was WORSE than my 9-5!
I worked more hours, had more stress, and spent less time with my family than ever before.
And guess what?
I was barely making more than I did at my 9-5.
All signs pointed to this being a horrible decision.
